A grouping of two commemorative medals, consisting of 1) A Military Honour Medal Second Class; a round silver medal; the obverse depicting the crowned royal monogram of Wilhelm Rex; the reverse inscribed “Kriegsverdienst” (German - War Merit) within a laurel wreath; on a loop for suspension; with its period original ribbon; measuring 40.50 mm in diameter; weighing 22.4 grams. 2) A 1861 Coronation Medal; in gilt bronze; the obverse depicting the rightward facing busts of Wilhelm and Augusta, circumscribed by their names and titles; the reverse ordained with the family’s monogram; measuring 29.96 mm in diameter; weighing 12.3 grams with its ribbon; in overall very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
