Hamburg, Free City. A Hanseatic Cross

(Hanseatenkreuz). 1915-1918. A Maltese cross constructed of silver with red enameled arms; the obverse depicting an outline of the Hamburg castle; the reverse plain, inscribed “Für Verdienst im Kriege 1914” in Gothic lettering; on a double loop suspension from its period original ribbon; measuring 40.30 mm (w) x 40.81 mm (h); weighing 17.8 grams with its ribbon; in overall extremely fine condition.
