Constructed of bronze gilt, with red enameled arms; the obverse with a black enameled eagle; the reverse with a vertical pinback, and a functional hinge/catch assembly; measuring 53.30 mm (w) x 53.17 mm (h); weighing 16.8 grams. Accompanied by its boutonniere featuring a miniature version of the award tied to a bow ribbon. Accompanied by its presentation case of issue; constructed of heavy cardstock, with a blue faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the case embossed with a golden eagle; with a lined interior lid, recessed medal bed, functional spring catch and stud release, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 97 mm (w) x 120 mm (h); in overall mint condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
