(Tapferkeitsmedaillen). A grouping of two bravery medals, consisting of 1) A Silver Bravery Medal Second Class, Third Award. Issued 1866-1914. A round silver medal; the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Kaiser Franz Joseph, circumscribed by his name and title; the reverse inscribed “Der Tapferkeit” (German - Bravery), within a laurel wreath; on a loop for suspension; on a loop for suspension from a correct replacement ribbon with two clasp; measuring 31.23 mm in diameter; weighing 18.2 grams. 2) A Bronze Bravery Medal. Issued 1917; a round copperwash bronze medal; the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Kaiser Karl, circumscribed by his name and title; the reverse inscribed “FORTITUDINI” (Latin - Fortitude), within a laurel wreath; on a loop for suspension from its correct replacement ribbon with a clasp; measuring 31.14 mm in diameter; weighing 14.1 grams; in overall near very fine condition. 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
