A grouping of two crosses, consisting of 1) A Breast Cross; constructed of silver in the shape of a Latin cross, with black enameled arms and an ornately detailed border; the reverse plain, with a single rivet visible through which the black enameled cross on the obverse is attached, with a tapered vertical pinback, with a functional hinge/catch assembly; measuring 51.22 mm (w) x 59.17 mm (h); weighing 31.2 grams. 2) A Neck Cross; A gilt bronze Latin cross with black and white enamels; on a broad loop for suspension from its period original ribbon; measuring 41.33 mm (w) x 52.40 mm (h); weighing 24.8 grams; the breast cross with the enamels flaked on the center of the cross; in overall near very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
