(Ka Hoku o Osiania e Hookanaka). Instituted December 16th 1886 by King Kalakaua I. A green enameled five armed star with white enamel boarders, clusters of seven smooth armed silver rays in each quadrant, obverse centre presenting a torch (light) rising from the ocean, symbolizing the Hawaiian Islands, with six five sided stars, with red enameled surround presenting gilt script KA HOKU OSIANIA (Star of the Ocean), reverse with Dutch import/duty mark ""vreemd"" for objects used between 1906 and 1953, measuring 52.3 mm (w) x 57 mm (h - inclusive of horizontally pierced ball suspension), on mid 20th century period ribbon, with minor hairline cracking to white enamels on 2 o'clock arm, otherwise extremely fine.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps.
