A grouping of three Austrian imperial medals, awards, and decorations, consisting of 1) A Military Merit Cross Type III (Militärverdienstkreuz). A silver cross pattee with red and white enameled arms; the obverse with a central white enameled medallion inscribed “VERDIENST” (German - Merit); the reverse fully enameled in white; on a double loop for suspension - marked “VM” for “Vincent Mayer”, with a Diana’s head silver mark; with its period original ribbon; measuring 30.92 mm (w) x 34.24 mm (h); weighing 14.6 grams. 2) A Tirol Commemorative Medal (Tiroler Landesdenkmünze); A round bronze gilt medal; the obverse depicting an Austrian eagle; the reverse inscribed “DAS LAND TIROL DEN VERTEIDIGERN DES VATERLANDES 1914-1918” within an oak wreath; suspended from a correct replacement ribbon; measuring 34.08 mm in diameter; weighing 17.7 grams. 3) An Iron Merit Cross with Crown; constructed of metal (non-magnetic); a solid cross, inscribed “FJ” for “Franz Joseph” on the obverse, surrounded by a ring, inscribed “VIRIBUS UNITIS” (Latin - Joining Forces); the reverse dated “1916”; on a loop and swivel crown for suspension from its period original ribbon; measuring 35.55 mm (w) x 54.96 mm (h); weighing 15.7 grams; in overall near very fine condition.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
