(Waffen SS-Regiment “Der Führer” Obersturmführer Tunika). A well preserved example of a Waffen-SS service tunic, constructed of mid-war grade field gray wool exterior, with a rayon-blended interior lining. The collar is constructed of dark green wool which contrasts the rest of the tunic. It is adorned by a set of Obersturmführer collar tabs, consisting of a right collar tab with a set of SS runes in silver aluminum bullion machine embroidery, and a left collar tab, with a single strip of silver aluminum bullion tresse that is centered by a single thread of black embroidery. Both tabs have a black woven core with a twisted silver aluminum bullion trim bordering all four sides. Each shoulder is adorned with shoulder boards constructed of four doubled-up rows of gray threads woven around a white fabric core in a “U” formation, with a single gilded zink rank pip attached to each. The neck end of each board with a loop for placement upon a uniform button, sewn onto a red fabric underside. On the left sleeve is a Waffen-SS eagle in the standard form of an eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, constructed of machine embroidered silver aluminum bullion threading, embroidered onto a black cotton backer. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of and held securely in place by a single piece of stitching at the rear of the sleeve, adorned on the right sleeve by a “Der Führer” cuff title, consisting of a black rayon woven backer, with “Der Führer” embroidered onto the cuff title via silver aluminum bullion embroidery, edged on the top and bottom by an additional horizontal row of silver embroidery. The front of the tunic bears four stylized pockets, two per breast, each closed by a reinforced buttonhole meeting a pebbled dark green metal (magnetic) button. Above the top left pocket is a medal ribbon bar for an Iron Cross 1939 Second Class. On the pocket itself are three awards - a Bronze Grade Infantry Assault Badge, an Iron Cross 1939 First Class, and a Black Grade Wound Badge. The infantry assault badge is constructed of bronzed zink, with an oval shaped oak leaf wreath, with a national eagle clutching a swastika on the top and a bowtie on the bottom. Diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k with the bayonet attached to the front of the barrel and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle; the reverse plain; with a vertical round wire pinback, a sheet metal hinge, and a round catch. It measures 46.76 mm (w) x 60.88 mm (h), and weighs 24.2 grams. The iron cross is constructed of a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border. The obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm, while the reverse is plain, with a banjo style vertical pinback, a barrel hinge, and a round wire catch. It measures 44.17 mm (w) x 44.28 mm (h), and weighs 16.2 grams. The black grade wound badge is constructed of oval shaped blackened bronze. The obverse pebbled with a Stahlhelm in the centre featuring a large mobile swastika on its side superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom, while the reverse is plain with a vertical needle style pin, sheet metal hinge, and a round wire catch. It weighs 36.78 mm (w) x 44.09 mm (h), and weighs 13.1 grams. The breasts of the jacket are closed by six reinforced buttonholes meeting an equal number of dark green pebbled metal (magnetic) buttons. The interior, afforded a silky smooth texture by the rayon-blended material, is met at the arms by liner constructed of identical material. There is a single interior pocket located at the top left breast, opening with a reinforced horizontal slit. The tunic measures approximately 42 cm across the shoulders, while the sleeves measure approximately 65 cm in length, with an overall body length of 73 cm. With overall only extremely minor fatigue from wear, including light fraying and soiling on the interior liner at the armpits, it is otherwise ideally preserved and is in an overall better than extremely fine condition.
