(Ordnungspolizei-Stahlhelm). Constructed of a single sheet of molybdenum steel (magnetic), painted in olive green paint on the interior and exterior, with a smooth rolled edge along the entire skirt of the helmet and stamped air vents, making this a signature M40 helmet. The left side of the helmet is adorned by a traditional police decal, consisting of a national eagle with open wings clutching a mobile wreathed swastika all within a larger oval wreath. The right side of the helmet is adorned by a swastika decal, consisting of a black mobile swastika on a white circular bed within a red background. The interior has its original light brown coloured leather liner, constructed of eight leather panels, each with five ventilation holes, as well as an additional hole at the top of each panel for the drawstring to be fed through. The drawstring itself is constructed of twisted/embroidered tan-coloured string, and appears to be original to the helmet. The chin strap is constructed of blackened leather, with its original metal hardware, and is securely fastened to the metal frame within the helmet. Although the chin strap is complete, it is torn in two pieces. The frame itself is fastened to the helmet via four rivets visible on the exterior of the helmet. It is marked “5072” on the rear skirt of the helmet, as well as “SE 66” on the left skirt for Sächsische Emaillier & Stanzwerke. It measures 234 mm (w) x 288 mm (h). Besides the torn chin strap and overall light wear from use, including light soiling on the interior liner and paint chips to the exterior, this helmet is in overall very fine condition.
