Germany, Imperial. Award Documents to Military Commissariat Dr. Domino, Wilhelm II Signature

The collection consists of: a promotion document to Military Commissariat Councillor (211x330mm, very fine); an Emperor Wilhelm Centenary Medal award document (300x240mm, fine); a Landwehr Service Award 2nd Class document (210x329mm, very fine).

The promotion document is named to former Militär-Intendanturassessor (Military Commissariat Assessor) Dr. jur. (Doctor of Law) Friedrich Wilhelm Domino, being promoted to Militär-Intendanturrat (Military Commissariat Councillor). It is dated to Berlin on April 6, 1899 and signed in black ink by Emperor Wilhelm II.

The Emperor Wilhelm Centenary Medal was awarded in 1897 in memory of the deceased Emperor Wilhelm I’s birthday one hundred years earlier, on March 22, 1797. It is named to Militär-Intendanturassessor Wilhelm Dr. Domino of the Commissariat of the 17th Army Corps. The document is signed in black ink by the Commanding General of the 17th Army Corps, General der Infanterie August von Lentze.

The Landwehr Service Award 2nd Class document is named to Second Lieutenant Domino of the Reserve of the 1st Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 74. It is dated to Danzig on February 21, 1896 and signed once more by Lentze.

August von Lentze was born on June 22, 1832 in Soest (western Germany). He joined the Prussian army in 1851, being promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1853 and to First Lieutenant in 1860. Lentze saw action during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 in the rank of Hauptmann (Captain). He was promoted to Major in 1869, serving in the General Staff of the 15th Division. With this unit, Lentze participated in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, winning the Iron Cross 2nd Class for his actions during the Battle of Gravelotte and the Iron Cross 1st Class for the Battle of Bapaume. He was promoted to Oberstleutnant (Lieutenant Colonel) in 1874 and became the Chief of Staff of the 6th Army Corps in 1876 for the following eight years. In 1884, Lentze was promoted to Major General and took command of the 19th Infantry Brigade. In 1887, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and made Commander of the 16th Division. He then became Commander of the newly established 17th Army Corps in 1890, a position he would hold for the next twelve years. In 1891, he was promoted to General der Infanterie. Lentze was ennobled by Emperor Wilhelm II in 1896 on occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Bapaume. He was also awarded the Grand Cross of the Red Eagle Order with Oak Leaves and Swords, and made a Knight of the Black Eagle Order. Lentze died on November 25, 1920.
