Fully functional, non-magnetic metal casing, the cover marked with the British Broad Arrow insignia, maker marked "DENNISON BIRMINGHAM", marked "VI" (Mark VI version), numbered "46653" and date marked "1917", stamped "151305" above "M" on the inside of the cover, the swivel face of the compass marked in increments of five degrees on the outer ring and marked with numerical increments of twenty degrees on the inner ring, large arrow in gold and black paint at the North position, the E, S and W positions in gold paint and outlined in black, the NE, SE, SW and NW positions in black, the positions flanked by dots in gold paint and outlined in black on either side, a directional pointer in gold paint and outlined in black on the underside of the flat glass face, transit lock securing the cover in place to the base along the top edge, hinged along the bottom edge, laterally-pierced ball suspension with ring, measuring 46.2 mm in diameter x 66 mm in height inclusive of its suspension ring x 14 mm in depth, contact marks on the exterior from active use, the base with a vertical indent, the glass face with a few light scratches, better than very fine.
