(Greifen-Orden, Großkreuz). Instituted on 15.9.1884 by Grand Ducke Friedrich Franz III. (Issued 1884-1918). The sash bade consisting of silver gilt in the shape of a Maltese cross with red enameled arms on the obverse and reverse, the obverse with a central pebbled gilt medallion bearing a rampant Griffon in silver gilt, on a double loop for suspension from its period original and full length sash ribbon, measuring 68.45 mm (w) x 67.06 mm (h), weighing 36.1 grams. The breast star consisting of an eight-pointed silver multi-rayed star, the obverse with a central pebbled gilt medallion bearing a rampant Griffon in silver gilt surrounded by a gilt knurled ring, and a broad red enameled ring inscribed “ALTIOR ADVERSIS” (Being above tribulations), with a vertical pinback, and a barrel hinge and round wire catch, measuring 84.44 mm (w) x 82.91 mm (h), weighing 60.8 grams, in overall near extremely fine condition.
