(69037 RFLM. G.R. TALBOYS. N.Z.E.F.). Naming is officially impressed. Contact marks, replacement ribbon, very fine. Accompanied by a New Zealand Rifle Brigade Button (in black bakelite, measuring 23.5 mm in diameter, intact loop), along with copies of his Service Records.
Footnote: George Robertson Talboys was born on October 3, 1886 in Cromwell, New Zealand, the son of William Talboys and Jessie Talboys. He was a resident of Lawrence, Otago, New Zealand when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (69037) with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force on May 15, 1917 at Dunedin, New Zealand, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Jessie Talboys of Dunedin, stating that he had four years' service in the Mounted Volunteers, that he was Single, that his religion was Anglican and that his trade was that of Draper. Private Talboys was then posted to the 36th Special Company, followed a promotion to Lance Corporal on November 19, 1917. He was transferred to 'D' Company 37th Rifle Brigade on April 10, 1918. Private (Rifleman) Talboys embarked Wellington, New Zealand on April 23, 1918, disembarking in the Suez on May 31st and was posted on strength there. Five weeks later, he embarked Alexandria, Egypt on July 4, 1918, arriving in Southampton, England on the 18th and was posted to Brocton, Staffordshire. A little over one year later, Private (Rifleman) Talboys embarked for home in New Zealand aboard the Cordoba on July 18, 1919.
