Item #G37949
(Goldenes Ehrenzeichen der NSDAP). A well-preserved example of a NSDAP Golden Party badge constructed of gilded tombac and multi-coloured enamels. The obverse presents with a central black mobile swastika within a bed of white enamels, with a red enameled edge inscribed “NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE D.A.P.” (“National Socialist German Workers’ Party”). The reverse presents with a catch for a horizontal pinback, an inscription of “GES. GESCH.” (“Legally Protected”), a maker’s mark of “Deschler & Sohn, München”, and NSDAP member number “80644” for Otto Rick. The badge measures 30.46 mm in diameter and weighs 13.2 grams. Minor scratching of the enamels is evident and the pinback is missing, but the badge is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Recipient Otto Rick was born in Pagutken, West Prussia (now Pogodki, Poland) on December 26, 1897, and joined the NSDAP on April 1, 1928. He was awarded the Golden Party Badge on April 10, 1934 while an office worker in Berlin and serving in the National Air Raid Protection League (Reichsluftschutzbund).
