Germany, Weimar. Commemorative War Cross with Swords for First War Combatants

(Kriegserinnerungskreuz für Kämpfer). Constructed of bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension, presents as a Maltese Cross with enameled swords crossing at the center, obverse depicts a crowned multi-coloured Prussian eagle at the centre surrounded by a black enameled ring with an inscription of “PREUSSENS TAPFEREN KRIEGERN” (“Prussia’s Brave Warriors”) in gold text, while obverse presents a central inscription of “1914-1918” in gold text on a white background within a black ring bearing the inscription “PREUSSISCHES KRIEGS ERINNERUNGS KREUZ” (“Prussian War Remembrance Cross”) in gold text, the reverse left and right arms of the cross bear the inscription “WELT KRIEG” (“World War”) in gold text while the top and bottom arms depict gold oak leaves, unmarked, measuring 45 mm (h) x 39 mm (w), in near extremely fine condition.
