(Landwacht Einheitsmütze). This is a very well-preserved Landwacht officer’s visor cap, constructed of a field-grey wool exterior. Dual bands of red woven Waffenfarbe piping trim the top of the peak and cap band. The front peak bears a magnetic metal police-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, within an oval oak leaf wreath, with bottom plaque inscribed “LANDWACHT”. The peak adornment measures 51 mm (w) x 46 mm (h). The front of the cap band bears a tri-colour zink cockade with a red felt centre, measuring 22 mm in diameter. The cap is flanked on each side by pebbled, silvered, magnetic metal buttons holding in place a decorative chinstrap, constructed of twisted and rolled silver aluminum bullion wire, knotted at each end and resting upon the cap’s black vulcanfibre visor. There are dual reinforced ventilation holes on each side of the cap. The interior has a 35-mm wide brown leather sweatband securely stitched into position. The cap features a complete light-brown rayon interior liner, with a partially intact transparent rhomboid moisture guard. The moisture guard clearly bears the wearer’s name of “B. Schmitt” on a paper label. The cap is unmarked and measures 239 mm (w) x 282 mm (l) x 166 mm (h). The exterior displays moderate soiling, the sweatband has been severed in one spot, and the moisture guard has mostly disintegrated, but the cap is in an otherwise very fine condition.
