Germany, Heer. A Heer Flak/Artillery Officer’s Visor Cap

(Heer Einheitsmütze). This is a very well-preserved Heer (Flak/Artillery) officer’s visor cap, constructed of smooth field-grey wool with a forest green cap band. Three bands of woven red Waffenfarbe piping ring the cap, with a single band at the top and one each at the top and bottom of the cap band. Pinned into the peak of the cap is a second pattern Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, constructed of silvered aluminum and measuring 65 mm (w) x 26 mm (h). Pinned into the centre of the cap band is a magnetic metal Wehrmacht-style tri-colour cockade within a second pattern oak leaf wreath, similarly constructed of silvered aluminum. The cap is flanked on each side by pebbled, silvered zink buttons holding in place a decorative chinstrap constructed of braided and twisted silver aluminum bullion wire, neatly knotted at both ends. The chinstrap rests upon the cap’s visor, which is constructed of lacquered black vulcanfibre. The interior of the cap has a brown leather sweatband, 40 mm in width, securely stitched into the lining. The liner covers the entirety of the interior and is constructed of gold-coloured rayon. Stitched into the top of the interior is a transparent rhomboid moisture guard. The cap is unmarked and measures 248 mm (w) x 271 mm (l) x 151 mm (h). There are sporadic patches of mothing to the wool and rayon features, in addition to some minor wear of the visor, but the cap is in an otherwise very fine condition.
