Ranjenička kolajna. Instituted in 1943. In gilt bronze, measuring 32.3 mm in diameter, one stripe on its original triangular ribbon with hook and eye indicating one wound, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Wound Medal was established "in honour of those who, as homeland defenders, were wounded or injured during combat with the enemy". A Gold Wound Medal was rewarded to those who had 61% (or more) of physical disability or were killed, while the Iron Wound Medal was rewarded to those who had to 60% of physical disability. The number of injuries was marked with one, two or three blue stripes, and for those who had more than three injuries, oak leaves were awarded.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
