(Zivil Verdienstorden Ritterkreuz 1. Klasse). Instituted on 7 June 1815 by King Friedrich Augustus 1. (Issued 1815-1918). I Model. 1815-1891. A white enameled Maltese cross with green enameled clovers in each quadrant, obverse centre features a finely hand painted crowned Saxon coat of arms, surrounded by the inscription “FRIED. AUG. K. V. SACHSEN D. 7. JUN. 1815” (FRIEDRICH AUGUST KING OF SAXONY, 7 JUNE 1815), reverse centre medallion contains the four-line inscription “FÜR VERDIENST UND TREUE” (“FOR MERIT AND FAITH”), bordered by laurels, makers marked S on 6 o'clock arm for G.A. Scharffenberg, Dresden, measuring 42.94 mm (w) x 43.18 mm (h), weighing 23.8 g, on ring suspended from period original green-and-white ribbon, with enamel loss to green laurels and light contact to both centres, otherwise, very fine.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
