Instituted 1917. Type I. Sash badge composed of a blue enameled four armed cross with intricate scaled pattern, obverse centre featuring a seated Britannia in gilt, a crimson enameled surround with Motto For God and the Empire, reverse presenting the crowned initials of King George V with braided surround, hinged crown, 71 mm (w) x 97 mm (h- including crown suspension), with enamel loss to both 3 and 9 o'clock arms, on full length period silk sash, fair. Accompanied by the star of the order, in silver, consisting of four pointed star, composed of clusters of individual smooth armed rays, obverse centre featuring a seated Britannia in gilt, a crimson enameled surround with Motto For God and the Empire, reverse with principle pin assembly, measuring 85 mm (w) x 104 mm (h), very fine.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
