Germany. A 1933 SS-Dagger by Kirschbaum & Co. of Weyersberg

(SS-Dienstdolch). 374 mm with the scabbard on, and featuring a 221 mm long magnetic nickel-plated blade with slightly sharpened edges and a semi-sharp tip. The blade’s reverse ricasso is marked “RZM 1053/38” for “Kirschbaum & Co. of Weyersberg”. It is diamond shaped, with the obverse of the blade etched with the SS inscription “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” (German - My Honour is Loyalty), retaining only some of its original cross-graining, with moderate to heavy scratches common to extraction and return to the scabbard. The blade also demonstrates moderate oxidation on the top half, with the remaining half being relatively well preserved. The cross-guard is constructed of heavily silvered zink, with light scratches and some bubbling on the surface due to age and wear. It is decorated with eight un-darkened grooves. The hardwood grip is evenly acid-stained to a charred black finish, without major damage or signs of wear. It sits tightly against the upper and lower cross-guard, fitting well in its place, with only small gaps from shrinkage of the wood from age. The German national eagle sits snug in its place and is level with the wooden grip, without significant gaps between the eagle and the grip. The roundel sits equally snug and flush with the grip, featuring the SS runes within black enamels.The pommel nut is hand-tightened, with minor marks from previous loosening. The scabbard is constructed of black-painted steel with nickel-silver fittings, with all four fastening screws present. Attached to the scabbard is also a leather dagger hanger with a functional spring-loaded nickel silver clip, marked “RZM M5c/93” for “Paulmann & Crone, Lüdenscheid”. In good condition.
