Germany. A Fighting Knife, c.1940

Measuring 272 mm long with the scabbard on, featuring a 152 mm long nickel-plated steel blade, with a slightly sharpened edge and a semi-pointy tip. The blade is un-etched, but is maker marked with the logo of “Anton Wingen, Solingen” on the reverse, with light marks common to extraction and return to the scabbard. The thick blackened leather washer is at the cross-guard is intact but sits loosely on the cross-guard. The cross-guard consists of a rounded finger guard, with black bakelite grip plates on either side of the grip. The grips are held in place via two rivets, with small gaps between the bakelite and the core of the grip. The pommel is in the shape of an eagle, with a protruding non-functional button on one of the sides, and missing an internal guide-rail normally observed on a bayonet. The scabbard is constructed of black painted steel (magnetic), depicting moderate wear and some loss of finish, with a coated metal spring on the interior of the scabbard that holds the knife in place once returned to the scabbard. The leather scabbard hanger is constructed of brown leather. In good condition.
