This is a very well-preserved case of issue for an Order of Orange-Nassau, accommodating a Commander’s cross with neck ribbon. The frame is constructed of heavy card stock with an orange faux leather exterior, while the obverse lid features an embossed Dutch coat of arms with the motto of both the Kingdom of the Netherlands and of the Order of Orange-Nassau, “Je Maintiendrai” (“I Will Maintain”). The interior of the lid features a padded, purple, satin-type liner embossed with a maker’s mark of “Roelof Citroen, Hofjuwelier, Kalverstr. 1-3, Amsterdam & Plaats 26, Den Haag”. The lid liner transitions into a fully intact hinge cover of identical composition. The liner fully covers the remainder of the interior, which features a separate purple felt recessed medal bed. The case is opened with a functional, stylized metal snap button adornment and functional magnetic metal hinge. It measures 148 mm (w) x 202 mm (l) x 40 mm (h). There is minor, age-appropriate fatigue to the exterior, but the case is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
