(Орден Святой Анны). Instituted on 14 February 1735. Type Two Enameled. (Issued 1829-1917). A red enameled cross, constructed of solid 14Kt. Gold, edged with golden rims, ornate designs in the corners of the cross’s arms, the obverse center presents a hand-painted St. Anne, the reverse center shows blue hand-painted initials on white enamel, the integral ring is Gold hallmarked “56” for 14k, also stamped with date of issue “1866,” measures 33.43 mm (w) x 37.78 mm (h), weighs 8.6 grams, on flat suspension loop with period piece of original red ribbon with narrow yellow edging, loss of enamel on obverse three o’clock arm and reverse nine o’clock arm, and in fair/poor condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
