(Albrecht-Orden, Komturkreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted 1850 by King Friedrich August II of Saxony. Constructed of silver gilt with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a white enameled Christ Cross with gilded borders joined through the arms by a green and red enamel laurel wreath, the obverse presenting with a central medallion composed of a gilt relief of Duke Albrecht III of Saxony inside a blue enameled ring bearing the Order’s Motto of “ALBERTUS ANIMOSUS” (“ALBERT THE MERCIFUL”), the reverse presenting with a central medallion composed of a crowned royal coat of arms in silver gilt and enamels, surrounded by a blue enameled ring bearing the Order’s institution date of “1850”, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 34.26 mm (w) x 44.60 mm (h) (inclusive of crown suspension), weighing 17.4 grams, minor flecking of enamels and tarnishing of silver gilt features evident, but the Cross is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
