Constructed of tombak, obverse presenting with a swooping Luftwaffe-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, within an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, with two rivets holding the eagle in place visible, marked with logo of maker Gebrüder Schneider, Vienna, with etched inscription of “HEIL”, measuring 66.23 mm (w) x 53.32 mm (h), weighing 41.2 grams, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of card stock with a faux dark blue leather exterior, obverse lid with gold embossed inscription of “Luftwaffe Flugzeugführerabzeichen” (“Luftwaffe Pilot Badge”), interior with blue felt lid liner and slotted blue felt medal bed, functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, functional magnetic metal hinge, measuring 80 mm (w) x 80 mm (l), in better than very fine condition.
