A group of four First War period commemorative badges, including a large badge constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, obverse with black enameled Cross Pattée on a pebbled gold background, with date of “1914” on the top arm and central raised medallion depicting leftward-facing profiles of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Emperor Franz Joseph, reverse plain with a horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 32 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition; an irregularly-shaped badge constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, obverse with with black enameled Cross Pattée with inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD WITH US”) and date of “1914 on the arms, with central raised profiles of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Emperor Franz Joseph, set on a richly-detailed background, reverse plain with a horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 33 mm (w) x 32 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition; a round badge, constructed of gilded bronze, obverse depicting rightward-facing profiles of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Emperor Franz Joseph above inscription of “DEUTSCHE TREUE” (“GERMAN LOYALTY”), reverse with horizontal pinback and raised inscription of “ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DEN WELTKRIEG! 1914” (“IN MEMORY OF THE WORLD WAR! 1914”), unmarked, measuring 24 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition, and; a Central Powers badges, constructed of bronze, obverse with raised profiles of Kaiser Wilhelm II, Emperor Franz Joseph, and Sultan Mehmed V, reverse with horizontal pinback and handwritten number “35216”, unmarked, measuring 25.5 mm (w) x 25 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
