A lot of four First War period German and Austrian patriotic badges, including a Prussian war veteran’s ribbon badge, constructed of gilded and silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels with ribbon, horizontal pinback, marked “Preussischer Landes Kriegerverband” on reverse, measuring 45 mm (w) x 120 mm (h) inclusive of ribbons, in better than very fine condition; a small Prussian war veteran’s badge, constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, horizontal pinback, marked “Preussischer Landes Kriegerverband” on reverse, measuring 36 mm (w) x 92 mm (h), in better than very fine condition; a Bavarian Red Cross badge, constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, maker marked on reverse “Deschler & Sohn, München”, measuring 31 mm (w) x 33 mm (h), in very fine condition, and; an Austro-Hungarian Empire coat of arms badge, constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, horizontal pinback, marked on reverse “Austria-Hungaria, Viribus Unitis”, measuring 32 mm (w) x 34 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
