(Abzeichen). A group of four badges, including a 1915 Austro-Hungarian Empire patriotic badge, constructed of gilded bronze, in the shape of an oval and painted black, with the Empire’s Coat of Arms on the obverse, with the date “1915” on a blue-enamelled shield and “KRIEGSPATENSCHAFT” (“WAR SPONSORSHIP”) on a blue-enamelled banner, affixed to the badge by two prongs, the reverse shows a horizontal pinback, measures 22.07 mm (w) x 28.48 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition. A multi-coloured enamelled badge featuring the Austro-Hungarian Coat of Arms, the reverse presents a horizontal pinback, measures 25.52 mm in diameter, and in extremely fine condition. A patriotic badge, of multi-piece construction, featuring a wreath affixed to a yellow-enamelled cross pattée bordered in black enamel, with the Hungarian Coat of Arms riveted to the centre, the reverse presents the engraving of the letter “W” and “GES.GESCHÜTZT,” with a horizontal pinback, measures 28.43 mm (w) x 28.67 mm (h), and in very fine condition. A Hungarian Republic badge featuring the new coat of arms (absent the monarchist elements), of multi-piece construction, the centre obverse features an oval presenting the Coat of Arms in red, green, and gold enamels, affixed to a gilded hexagon base, the reverse shows a horizontal pinback, measures 30.03 mm (w) x 25.66 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
