(Königliche Kronen-Orden Kreuz 4. Klasse mit Jubiläumszahl 50). Instituted in 1861. Type 2. (Issued 1867-1918). A gilded bronze cross pattée with pebbled arms, obverse with a circular central medallion depicting the Royal Prussian crown, surrounded by a blue-enamelled ring, inscribed “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD WITH US”) in gilt lettering, the reverse presents a circular central medallion depicting the royal cipher of Kaiser Wilhelm I, surrounded by a blue-enamelled ring, inscribed “Den 18 October 1861” (“The 18th of October 1861”), maker mark “H&S” for Humbert & Söhn of Berlin on the edge between the 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock arms, measuring 41.29 mm (w) x 45.24 mm (h), on loop for suspension with the jubilee number “50” in gilt, from period original blue ribbon, cross shows light contact and very light wear of gilt, and in overall extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
