(Fürstlich Reußisches Ehrenkreuz 1. Klasse mit Krone und Schwertern). Instituted on 24 May 1869. (Issued 1909-1918). A Gold Maltese cross with silver rays radiating from the centre of the cross, obverse with a red enameled central medallion depicting a Gold crowned coat of arms of Reuss, surrounded by a Gold ring, reverse centre featuring a black enameled central medallion depicting a gold crowned royal cipher of Heinrich, surrounded by a Gold ring, on a loop for suspension from its shortened period original neck ribbon, measuring 49.84 mm (w) x 78.33 mm (h - inclusive of Imperial Crown with horizontally pierced ball suspension adorned by cross), weighing 30.6 grams, on loop for suspension from period original purpose neck ribbon, and in overall extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
