(Heer Kavallerie Feldmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Heer (Army) Cavalry officer’s M1938 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool twill. The top of the cap, as well as the frontal scallops, are adorned with silver aluminum wire piping, while the top also bears dual ventilation holes reinforced with magnetic metal eyelets. Stitched into the peak of the cap is an insignia in the form of a Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, constructed of machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire on a green rayon backer, measuring 65 mm (w) x 26 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is a yellow soutache, indicating cavalry personnel, above a Wehrmacht-style tri-colour cockade constructed of machine embroidery on a green rayon backer. The interior front has a grey leather sweatband, measuring 27 mm at its greatest width, securely held in place by a row of machine stitching. The interior features a complete light brown rayon liner. The cap is unmarked and measures 286 mm (l) x 108 mm (h) as folded. In extremely fine condition.
