(Luftwaffe Fliegermütze). This is a very well-preserved Luftwaffe M43 tropical field cap, constructed of tan-coloured cotton twill. The top of the cap is trimmed with twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire piping, indicating that the cap was upgraded after the owner received a promotion to officer. The cap is flanked on each side by dual ventilation holes with bakelite-reinforced eyelets. The peak bears an insignia in the form of silver-grey, machine-embroidered, Luftwaffe-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 78 mm (w) x 35 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade measuring 22 mm in diameter. The cap features a protruding visor with a cardboard reinforcement. The interior is fully lined with an off-white cotton twill liner, with a partially-visible size stamp of “57”. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 190 mm (w) x 245 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). Moderate soiling is evident to the exterior, and the cardboard visor reinforcement has been cracked in several place. The cap is in otherwise near very fine condition.
