(Luftwaffe Fliegermütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe officer’s converted overseas cap, constructed of dark grey wool. The peak of the cap features an insignia in the form of a Luftwaffe-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, constructed of silver-grey machine embroidery on a grey wool backer and measuring 65 mm (w) x 35 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is a machine-embroidered Luftwaffe-style tri-colour cockade measuring 20 mm in diameter. The cap is surrounded by fold-down panels which are trimmed with silver aluminum wire piping, indicating that the cap was modified following the owner’s promotion to officer. The interior is fully lined with an olive-green cotton twill liner, which is stamped in black ink with a maker’s mark of “L. Püttmann, Paderborn, 1941” and a size of “57”. The cap measures 275 mm (l) x 120 mm (h) as folded. While minor soiling is evident, the cap is in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
