(Königliche Kronen-Orden 2. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted on 18 October 1861. Type II. (1867-1918 Issue). A silver cross gilt pattée with white enamelled arms, obverse centre presenting a central medallion depicting the Royal Prussian crown, surrounded by a light-blue enamelled ring, bearing the inscription GOTT MIT UNS (GOD WITH US) in gilt lettering, reverse centre presenting the royal cipher WR for Wilhelmus Rex, surrounded by a light-blue enamelled ring, inscribed DEN 18 OCTOBER 1861 (THE 18TH OF OCTOBER 1861), maker mark W on bottom of six o’clock arm denoting manufacture by Johann Wagner & Sohn of Berlin, also silver hallmarked 938, measuring 52.27 mm (w) x 56.56 mm (h), with minimal gilt loss and no enamel chipping, on flat loop for suspension from period original neck ribbon, and in overall very fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
