A badge constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse presents the intertwined initials SUV, surrounded by the official motto GRATIA DEI SERVATUS, with the year MDCCCLXXXI (1881), circumscribed by a laurel wreath, with cannons crossing behind, with an eagle perched atop, the reverse presents the Sons of Veterans Coat of Arms and the patent date Nov 20, 1888, measuring 30.49 mm (w) x 36.32 mm (h), on loop for suspension from period original ribbon, suspended from hanger with pinback, the hanger inscribed FILII VETERANORUM, light contact, and better than very fine condition.
Footnote: The Sons of Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Organized in 1881 and chartered by Congress in 1954, it is the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic.
