(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 2. Klasse). A cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central W under an Imperial crown, and institution date 1914 in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse centre with a branch of three oak leaves below the crowned initials FW, with the original institution date 1813 in raised numbering on the lower arm, measuring 43.33 mm (w) x 47.50 mm (h), on loop for suspension from period original ribbon, and in near very fine condition. Accompanied by its hard-helled case of issue, marked with an Iron Cross on the exterior lid, with recessed medal bed, measuring 65 mm (w) x 90 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), and in near very fine condition.
