Germany, Wehrmacht. A War Merit Cross, II Class, by Gustav Brehmer

(Kriegsverdienstmedaille II. Klasse). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period correct replacement ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse with a central mobile swastika inside an oak leaf wreath, the reverse with a date of “1939” inside an oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 49.14 mm (w) x 49.32 mm (h), weighing 14.2 grams, accompanied by its period original pocket of issue, constructed of paper stock, the obverse with black ink inscription of “Kriegsverdienstmedaille 1939”, the reverse with a maker’s mark of “Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen”, measuring 59 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
