(Abzeichen). A group of four German and Austro-Hungarian pins and badges, including a patriotic badge, of multi-piece construction, featuring a wreath affixed to a yellow-enamelled cross pattée bordered in black enamel, with a silvered medallion riveted to the centre, featuring the date 1914 and the Hungarian coat of arms, the reverse presents the engraving of the letter W and GES.GESCHÜTZT, with a horizontal pinback, measures 28.05 mm (w) x 28.15 mm (h), and in near very fine condition. A horizontal, oval badge, constructed of multi-coloured enamel, bearing the Austrian coat of arms, the reverse plain, with horizontal pinback, measuring 21.13 mm (w) x 31.92 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition. A silver, hexagonal badge, bearing the Austrian coat of arms, the reverse presents a horizontal pinback, measuring 27.61 mm (w) x 28.91 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition. An Austrian badge constructed of a gilded cross pattée, the centre obverse presents a black-enamelled square bearing the initials KF, the reverse plain, with a horizontal pinback, measuring 28.66 mm (w) x 28.81 mm (h), and in extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
