Germany, Luftwaffe. An Observer’s Badge

(Beobachterabzeichen). Instituted on 26 March 1936. (Issued 1936-1945). Constructed of zink, with a richly-detailed oak leaf wreath bearing a stylized “J-1” type Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse presents with a barrel hinge accommodating a vertical pinback with a flat tip meeting a round wire catch, two smooth-domed rivets at the top half of the reverse of the wreath securely hold the obverse eagle in position, measuring 52.40 mm (w) x 53.16 mm (h), weighing 35.3 grams, and in very fine condition.
