Germany, Imperial. An 1870 Iron Cross I Class

(Eisernes Kreuz 1870 I. Klasse). Reinstituted on 19 July 1870 by Kaiser Wilhelm I. An early 20th century issued cross consisting of a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a raised central initial of “W”, with the reinstitution date of “1870” on the lower arm and a royal crown on the upper arm, screw back style with backplate, unmarked but with physical characteristics of 1930s manufacture, measuring 44.13 mm (w) x 43.87 mm (h), weighing 21.3 grams, in better than very fine condition.
