A silver gilt Maltese Cross in white enamel, the centre medallion presents a white enamelled Maltese Cross over a red enamelled field, circumscribed by a ring of white enamel, inscribed MIL. ORDO EQUITUM MELIT BENE MERENTI (Military Order of Merit), the reverse with a red enameled medallion dated 1916, surrounded by a ring of white enamel depicting an open ended wreath, hallmarked on integral ring with Diana’s head, number 2 and letter A denoting the city Vienna and .900 silver fineness from 1867 to 1922, measures 39.46 mm (w) x 43.46 mm (h), weighing 13.4 grams, on loop for suspension from period original civil ribbon, with safety pin, and in very fine condition.
