(Königliche Kronen-Orden III. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted on 18 October 1861. (1867-1918 issue). In silver gilt consisting of a Cross Pattée with white enameled arms, the obverse with a central gilt medallion bearing a convex Prussian royal crown, surrounded by a blue enameled ring with gilt inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD IS WITH US”) and arabesques, reverse with an analogous medallion depicting a convex monogram of Kaiser Wilhelm I, surrounded by a blue enameled ring with gilt inscription of “DEN 18 OCTOBER 1861”, with crossed swords piercing the body of the cross, marked on ring 925, measuring 43.22 mm (w) x 47.54 mm (h), weighing 21.1 grams, minor tarnishing and flecking of enamels evident, mid 20th century ribbon, with convex centres denoting a likely manufacture date of c.1930, in near extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
