Germany, Waffen-SS. A Panzer EM/NCO’s M40 Overseas Cap

(Waffen-SS Panzer Feldmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS Panzer EM/NCO’s overseas cap, constructed of thick black wool, with fold-down scalloped panels to the front and side. The peak of the cap bears an insignia in the form of a machine-embroidered silver wire SS-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 70 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is an additional insignia consisting of a SS Totenkopf (Dead Head), of identical construction and measuring 30 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). The interior of the cap is fully lined with an olive-green cotton twill which bears a size stamp of “57” in black ink. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 285 mm (l) x 110 mm (h) as folded. With the exception of minor interior soiling the cap is otherwise free of evident flaws and is in an extremely fine condition.
