Constructed of bronze, the obverse with a St. Bernard-type dog wearing a garment with medical accessories, circumscribed by inscription “ERSTMALIGE VERWENDUNG DER SANITÄTSHUNDE, WELTKRIEG 1914” (“FIRST USE OF MEDICAL DOGS, WORLD WAR 1914”), the reverse with a central Geneva Cross on top of a battlefield scene, topped by inscription “IM DIENSTE DER MENSCHHEIT” (“IN THE SERVICE OF HUMANITY”), maker marked on the edge “K. Goetz”, measuring 81.59 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
