Austria, Imperial. A Medal for the Defence of Tirol 1848, by Lange

(Denkmünze an die Tiroler Landesverteidigungs 1866). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, the obverse with a rightward-facing profile of Franz Joseph I circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with inscription of “DEM TIROLER LANDESVERTHEIDIGER” (“THE DEFENDERS OF TIROL”), circumscribed by inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KAISER UND VATERLAND”( “WITH GOD FOR EMPEROR AND FATHERLAND”), the obverse maker marked “K. Lange”, measuring 30.85 mm in diameter, weighing 15.3 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in better than very fine condition.
