Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a large wreathed mobile swastika, with a shield at the bottom bearing a raised date of “1939”, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 44.19 mm (w) x 30.50 mm (h), accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux black leather exterior, the overse lid with a silver embossed depiction of the decoration, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, slotted black felt medal bed, opening with a functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, with a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 66 mm (w) x 66 mm (l) x 18 mm (h), including its period original box of issue, constructed of off-white cardboard, the obverse with a black inscription of “Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse” and “Nur vom Bellehenen zu öffnen” (“Only for the Recipient to open”), the left side maker marked “B.H. Mayer, Pforzheim”, measuring 70 mm (w) x 72 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
