(Heer Feldmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Heer (Army) Panzer officer’s M1938 field cap, constructed of thick black wool. The cap features a fold-down side panel fully lining the circumference, the front of which bears a length of silver aluminum wire piping. The top of the cap is fully lined with an additional band of silver aluminum piping. The peak bears a machine-embroidered, silver aluminum wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 70 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is a golden-yellow embroidered soutache, indicating that the cap was worn by a signals officer. The soutache surrounds a machine-embroidered, BeVo-style tri-colour cockade which completes the exterior adornments of the cap, measuring 24 mm in diameter. The cap is flanked by ventilation holes reinforced by blackened magnetic metal eyelets. The interior forehead region has a black leather sweatband, while the entire cap has a dark grey rayon liner with a silky texture and high sheen, with the right side bearing a black ink size stamp with the number “58”. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures 280 mm (l) x 115 mm (h) as folded. In extremely fine condition.
