Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Iron Cross, I Class, by Deschler & Sohn

(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 I. Klasse). A cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver border, the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date 1939 in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse plain with a barrel hinge and vertical banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but characteristic of the maker Deschler and Sohn, measuring 44.49 mm (w) x 44.41 mm (h), weighing 17.1 grams, and in near very fine condition.
