A cross constructed of silver, with red-enamelled arms, the obverse centre presents a silver medallion inscribed FJ for FRANZ JOSEPH, surrounded by a broad silver ring, bearing the inscription VIRIBUS UNITIS (STAND UNITED), the reverse centre presents a similar medallion, presenting the date 1849, maker marked on loop with V. MAYER’S SOHNE IN WIEN, hallmarked with an Austrian stamp featuring a Diana’s head, the number 2, and letter A, denoting 0.900 fineness, dated to 1871 to 1922, measuring 29.88 mm (w) x 33.62 mm (h), on loop for suspension from period original triangular ribbon, and in very fine condition.
